Alex Katz (Brooklyn New York, July 24, 1927) is an American painter. His figurative, abstract style is seen as a form of modern realism. Around 1960, his work was a source of inspiration for artists of American pop art such as Andy Warhol. Katz paints realistic portraits and landscapes. His preliminary studies are often enlarged to very large formats. Close-ups of his wife and muse Ada, of his son Vincent, of friends and fashion models next to cityscapes from New York and natural impressions from Maine.
