The Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek was founded in 1907 by the brothers Jacob and Klaas Vet from Purmerend. They previously founded Firma Jb. Vet & Co op. After that factory burned down, they started again in Arnhem. After Jacob's death in 1924 and his dismissal in 1926, Klaas started a new factory: NV Plateelfabriek Gelria.
In terms of products, the Arnhemsche Fayencefabriek produced models that corresponded to pottery from Purmerend and from the Rozenburg, Zuid-Holland and De Distel pottery bakeries. Sometimes the shapes were based on classical pottery, such as Greek amphorae. The decoration on the pottery was often reused, but a number of styles can be distinguished: decoration with a dark or light background, linear or geometric decoration and Persian-inspired decoration in a neo-Empire style. During the crisis of the 1930s, hand-painted pottery became too expensive and the switch was made to flow glaze. Ultimately, the crisis led to the closure of the factory in 1934/1936.
