Cornelis de BRUIN (Utrecht 1870 - Amsterdam 1940)
The painter Cornelis de Bruin lived and worked mainly in Amsterdam and until about 1923 in Baarn. He was a student at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam and mainly painted and drew landscapes (mostly the Gooi), sometimes with figures in the style of the Hague School. He was praised for his special use of many shades of gray. He also worked as a pottery painter at "De Distel" in Amsterdam and the "Dordtsche Kunstpotterij" in Dordrecht. Cornelis de Bruin died on 27 August 1940 in Amsterdam.
