Gerrit VAN DUFFELEN (1889-1967)Gerrit van Duffelen, born in 1889 (Rotterdam) and died in 1967 (Bloemendaal), watercolorist, etcher, graphic artist, painter, draftsman. He was educated at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam. In 1914 he received the 'Royal Prize for Free Painting', an incentive prize for young promising painters, which was instituted by King Willem III in 1871 and is awarded annually by the king. Gerrit van Duffelen was one of the painters who in the early 20th century opted for a traditional impressionist style. As early as the 1920s, his work was purchased by the Dordrechts Museum and the Boymans-van Beuningen Museum. In 1925 Gerrit van Duffelen moved to Amsterdam. Around that time he made many trips to Paris and the south of France. During the Olympiad 1928 he won a bronze medal for his work 'Boy with sled'. From 1955 he lived and worked in Bloemendaal, where he died on April 5, 1967.
