Hadeland is one of the largest glass producers in Norway. The company was founded in 1762 by the state and offered very good conditions and rights to its employees. Hadeland produced all kinds of colorful glassware for different purposes. From 1852 the transparent, colorless glass became available and the company started designing products such as drinking glasses, vases and bowls. The influence of Art Deco is clearly visible in the glassware from the 1930s, which has heavy and architectural forms. In 1929, Sverre Petterson became the first Artistic Director, after the pressure on high quality design increased. To this day, the company is a popular tourist attraction and is responsible for the majority of glass production in Norway.
