Education:
Heinz Mack studied from 1950-1953 at the art academy in Düsseldorf, Germany. Mack then went on to study philosophy at the University of Cologne in 1956.
Today Mack lives and works in Mönchengladbach and Ibiza.
Heinz Mack has as a central theme in his work: light, time, space, dynamics and movement. He has been doing this since 1956. Mack's work is a medium for the transport of light.
In 1957, Heinz Mack and Otto Piene found Gruppe ZERO in Düsseldorf. Mack was appointed professor in 1970 and invited to lecture in Osaka Japan, and becomes a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin. In 1962, 1968, 1972 Mack made major expeditions to the North Pole, and into the Algerian desert.
Exhibitions and prizes:
Mack twice participated in the Documenta Kassel, and in the Venice Biennale. In 2009, Mack was awarded the Ehrenring from the city of Mönchengladbach. This year, 2012, Mack will be awarded the "Preis der Kulturstiftung Dortmund".
At the same time, a major exhibition is being organized in the Museum Ostwall in Dortmund. Mack has placed work in public spaces in many cities, including Munich, Berlin, Cologne.
