Hilbert BOXEM (Alkmaar 1939 - Franeker 2001)
Hilbert Boxem was a ceramist who produced many abstract forms. His works have no functional function and are often variations on simple basic forms. He made little use of bright colors and concentrated on earthy pigments. In his later work he uses the contrast of two basic shapes to arrive at a ceramic image. His first studio was located in Landsmeer, later he moved to Franeker where he started a new studio. Boxem's ceramics are generally twisted shapes with the addition of straight, small clay plates.
