Jacob Eiler BANG (Frederiksberg 1890 - Lyngby 1965)
Jacob Bang first studied to be a sculptor and architect before working as an industrial designer at Holmegaard Glaswerk. After a few years he became artistic director there. However, he left the company in 1942 to set up his own studio. As a freelancer, Bang alternately designed ceramic and metal products on commission until he became Artistic Director at Kastrup Glaswerk in 1957. There he produced glassware that lived up to his principles of simplicity and entertainment in design products. Well-known designs of his hand are the Holga wine glass and the Primula glassware series. His style was influenced by Modernism, but did not go along with the dogmatic functionalism from Germany.
