Jacob Willem Gruijter (Amsterdam 1856 - Egmond 1908)
JW Gruyter lived and worked in Amsterdam until 1907, after which he left for Egmond. He received his education at the Applied Arts School Quellinus in Amsterdam, but was also a student of his father Willem Gruyter Jr., who in turn learned to paint from Hermanus Koekkoek.
Gruyter was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam.
Jacob Gruyter mainly painted sea and river views, usually with ships. Work by Jacob Gruyter is included in the collection of the Scheepvaart Museum in Amsterdam.
