Artist
José van Gool was born in 1945 in Baarle-Hertog. She has lived and worked in Amsterdam since 1968. She followed her training at the Rietveld Academy, in the workshop of the Van Gogh Museum and masterclasses at the AIS in Amsterdam. She has been working professionally as a painter for over 40 years. Her paintings are internationally appreciated and most sold in New York and Boston and the surrounding area, because she has been working closely with eight gallery owners there for 20 years. About the many exhibitions in the past and present at home and abroad, you can only read positive reviews about her work in the various daily and art magazines.
Her works mainly consist of oil on linen and acrylic on paper, but she also makes collages of various materials. Characteristic of her work is the position of people in daily life. Through color and composition she is able to express emotions such as desolation, solidarity and happiness on the canvas in an almost inimitable style. She allows the different tonal settings to flow into each other almost imperceptibly, as a result of which they reinforce and deepen each other. With her use of color she suggests a world where harsh contrasts have been banned, where even the harshest color differences are naturally in harmony with each other.
