Lourdes Castro was educated at the School of Fine Art Lisbon in Portugal.
She lived and worked in Portugal
Lourdes Castro is a lyrical abstract painter from the 1950s who experimented with new materials. Her work quickly evolved into a more abstract style. In the early 1960s, Castro makes a series of constructions of various objects bathed in a silver dye.
Other works by Lourdes Castro explore the idea of presence and absence, either by filling in evenly filled human silhouettes projected onto canvas or employing overlapping cut-out silhouettes in transparent materials. Lourdes Castro has gained great fame with these silhouettes.
