In 1883 Hubert Gérard Louis (I) Regout, son of Petrus Regout and Maria Regout-Hoeberechts, founded the porcelain factory Firma Louis Regout en Zoon with his son Louis (II) in Meerssen. When the company is expanded in 1888 with a wall tile factory, the company name Mosa is adopted.
The Stella glass factory was founded in 1902, which was merged with the Sphinx glass factory in 1925: the company was continued under the name NV Kristalunie. In 1932 Mosa starts producing pottery and in 1949 floor tiles are added to the range. In 1957, Mosa opened a factory in Maastricht for the production of floor tiles, which had already been included in the collection.
In 1964 the tile factory Rema is taken over. In 1972 the last Regout says goodbye to Mosa and Mosa comes into the hands of Thyssen Bornemisa Group. In 1975 Thyssen Bornemisa Group sells Mosa to DSM. With this acquisition, the Teewen floor range is added to the Mosa tile collections. In 1983 Mosa received the designation Royal. In 1985, the English company Redland buys Mosa.
In 1991 Mosa is included in the holding of France Alfa. In 1996 the porcelain production split off from Koninklijke Mosa BV (tile production) and continued as the independent company Mosa Porselein NV In 2004 this company restarted under the name 'Maastricht Porselein'. In 1997 Koninklijke Mosa BV returned to Dutch hands: Holland Venture BV, TVI investments BV and Wagram Equity Partners BV
