Orrefors
Orrefors is a Swedish glass manufacturer that has been active since 1898. Until the factory was bought by Johan Ekman in 1913, Orrefors mainly made windows and bottles. From that year on, more consumer glass was produced. From 1914, objects made of crystal and cut crystal have been made. Ekman hired several glass masters. The first glassware was designed after the then popular French styles and later the Art Nouveau became an important influence. In the first half of the twentieth century, Simon Gate and Edward Hald led the way in the factory's design style and ethics. They were successful with a new thin glass engraving technique developed by in-house master glassblower Knut Bergqvist. Orrefors is part of Orrefors Kosta Boda AB, a Swedish design company. Kosta Boda AB has been part of the New Wave Group since 2005.
