Paul Arntzenius (1883-1965)
Paul Arntzenius, a cousin of Floris Arntzenius, was born on May 20, 1883 in The Hague and died on January 4, 1965 in The Hague. He was educated from 1901-1903 at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague under WBTholen, his educator after the death of his mother, to whom his work is related. Was taught by Herbert van der Poll, Willem Bastiaan Tholen and Willem Witsen. Worked in Belgium, France, Zeeland (Veere), Amsterdam and The Hague. In 1949 he won the Jacob Maris Prize together with Theo Bitter. He was a member of the artists' societies ?Pulchri Studio? in The Hague and ?Arti et Amicitiae? in Amsterdam. Paul Arntzenius took part in various solo and group exhibitions in The Hague and Amsterdam. His work is included in the collections of the Haags Gemeentemuseum, the Stedelijk Museum in Gouda, the Singer Museum in Laren and the National Collection. He was also an avid art collector, who donated his collection to the Stedelijk Museum in Gouda. In 1963 his book ?A painter's musings? (published by LJC Boucher).
