Urbain Huchet (1930)
The life of Urbain Huchet, who was born on April 28, 1930 in Rennes, was very wonderful. After his law studies he bought a small textile factory. In his youth he painted and drew a lot and after four years in the factory he gave up on that and opted for an uncertain existence as an artist. He spent the first three years of his life as an artist in the Breton town of Post Aven, where he followed in the footsteps of illustrious predecessors such as Paul Gauguin and Emile Bernard, who also strongly influenced his work. He paints the Breton coast, the harbors with the fishing boats, the Bretons in their traditional costumes, etc. After moving to Paris in 1963, in addition to drawing and painting, he also wrote and traveled extensively through Europe, the Middle East and South. America. During these trips, which usually lasted 4 to 5 months, he found inspiration in markets and, of course, landscapes and people. He was also attracted to slightly erotic work such as this lithograph “The black seductress”. He became very famous for his large and extensive portfolio of prints inspired by Egypt, a country of which he was very impressed. Urbain Huchet has had exhibitions all over the world, but Paris is still the city where he became most famous. An estimated 300 editions of lithographs, all of which were printed by him in various studios in Paris and Cannes, were published.
