Fauvism

The term Fauvism comes from les fauves, which means the wild beasts. The painters so named had shocked the art world by exhibiting paintings with an enormously spontaneous and rough application and an intense, hardly mixed use of color. In addition, shapes were simplified, so that no three-dimensional illusion can be found in the painting. Fauvism can be seen as one of the first avant-garde movements of the twentieth century and originates from France. At the same time, the movement can also be seen as the forerunner of expressionism. However, all artists linked to Fauvism worked independently of each other. They shared the same ideas about art, but there was no organized movement.
