Minimal art

Minimal Art or minimalism is not an official organized group or movement. Critics have used the term minimal art to describe seemingly simple geometric constructions. This art form started in the United States, then spread to the European continent. The related movement Arte Povera arose in Italy. It arose in response to Abstract Expressionism in the United States. Within the Minimal Art movement, the artists tried to establish a relationship with the environment using the simplest possible means. This created a tension, because of the contrast with the environment, was what it was all about.
