Founded in 1931 - dissolved in 1937
Abstraction-Création was an international group founded by the Belgian Georges Vantongerloo. Many important abstract painters were members of the group, such as Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian, and Abstraction-Création soon numbered around 400 members. The group has played an important role in the development of modern art. The aim of the association was also to promote abstract art, and in particular the geometric-constructive direction within abstract art. They did this through group exhibitions, lectures, discussion meetings and joint editions and publications.
