Stads Teekenacademie

Founded in 1718 - dissolved in 1822

Amsterdam City Drawing Academy

The City Drawing Academy in Amsterdam was the predecessor of the Royal Academy and the Rijksakademie. At first it was called the Practice School of Drawing. It received its current name in 1741. The school did not want to train people to become artists, but to introduce younger people to art. In addition, the Teekenacademie was used as a social club. The City Drawing Academy disappeared when the Royal Academy was founded.
