Anton Martineau kent de Amsterdamse Wallen als zijn broekzak. Hij werd er in 1926 geboren als zoon van een huisschilder. Zijn moeder verdiende er wat bij als helderziende en rekende onder meer de meisjes van plezier uit de buurt tot haar clientèle.
De verwantschap van Martineau met de Cobra-schilders en vooral met Lucebert is
zichtbaar, maar Martineau besteedt meer aandacht aan details, aan de rand van
een panty of een schouderbandje.
Schilderij was onderdeel van de tentoonstelling ‘O la la Martineau, vrouwen gezien door de penseelharen van Martineau, 60 jaar schilderlust’
