Twice naked in passe-partout
Gerard Schäperkötter (1914-2008).
This work and the other works from my collection were made by Gerard Schäperkötter and came from the artist's studio in Amstelveen. Schäperkötter's work is characterized by the alternation of lyrical abstraction and powerful use of color and is inspired by the expressionism of, among others, the Cobra movement and the Ecole de Paris. His work has been exhibited in many museums and galleries at home and abroad and is in the collections of, among others, the Cobra Museum, Museum Henriette Polak and Museum van Bommel van Dam.
Watercolor in passe-partout with back cover (folder).
Signature: bottom right.
Paper is slightly wrinkled, which I think can be remedied with proper framing.
Additional information taken from the site of a large gallery: Gerard Schäperkötter was originally a graphic designer and chose free painting in 1914. His approach to the medium was spontaneous and free and, after a figurative lead-in period, led to powerful compositions in the 1960s and 1970s. In their balancing between abstraction and figuration, these are somewhat reminiscent of the lyrical-abstract art of the Ecole de Paris. The painter created a new reality from his memory and imagination, which he often elaborated in themes such as beaches, walls or gardens. Museums: including Museum Henriette Polak, Zutphen.
