Door zijn verfbehandeling hebben veel van de schilderijen van Gerard Strik een bijna geboetseerde oppervlaktestructuur. Het zand dat hij aan zijn olieverf toevoegt, is niet alleen voor de structuur; het maakt zijn verf ‘aards’ als een natuurmaterie.
