Jacques Gorus - Winter landscape - Sold

Rare etching by the Belgian painter, watercolorist, draftsman and graphic artist Jacques (Jaak) Gorus (1901 -1981). He was educated at the Academy in Ghent under the guidance of J. Delvin (1941-1919) and at the Higher Institute in Antwerp under the guidance of Pellens, J. De Bruycker and Isdore Opsomer (1925). He stayed in Ostend in 1919 and regularly met James Ensor and Leon Spilliaert. In 1920 he settled in Antwerp and made his debut with impressionistic mood images of the Antwerp harbor area. He gained fame as an etcher and published several series of etchings with Antwerp as the sole subject. In 1929 he traveled to New York, in 1955 to Paris and Spain. He illustrated works by, among others, M. De Ghelderode, E. Verhaeren, K. Van De Woestijne, G. Duhamel and G. De Maupassant. From 1946 to 1968 he was a teacher at the Academy in Antwerp.
