Jan Hofman has been active as a visual artist for nearly five decades, working as a printmaker and as a painter using mixed media. His extensive oeuvre is intriguing—due to its visual power and refined richness of color. The work possesses presence and expressiveness, is exciting, and compels a visual adventure—however diverse, his oeuvre has a distinct identity. Also striking is the technical perfection and the meticulousness with which each piece is created. Hofman has gained appreciation as a creative and technically gifted artist, with a captivating and distinctive oeuvre. His art deserves ample attention. This prompted several art lovers to give Hofman a broad platform. They formed the Jan Hofman Artist Foundation and organized a retrospective exhibition in Leeuwarden, his working city, in 2009.
