Prachtig, groot werk van de Friese kunstenaar Jelle Hoogstra. Acryl op dik papier, gesigneerd en gedateerd (‘90) rechtsonder. In mooi houten lijst.
Jelle Hoogstra werd geboren in 1924 te Leeuwarden en begon zijn opleiding tot kunstenaar aan de academie "kunstoefening" te Arnhem in 1942 met als leermeester H. van Lerven. Door de oorlog moest hij deze opleiding in 1944 staken. Nadien meldde hij zich aan bij de Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam. Onder leiding van de docenten Aart Glansdorp en David Bautz behaalde hij zijn diploma. Hierna probeerde hij als vrij kunstenaar in zijn onderhoud te voorzien. In 1953 ging hij werken als stedebouwkundig tekenaar bij de dienst Stadsontwikkeling te Rotterdam. In zijn vrije tijd (vaak s'nachts) maakte hij tekeningen en gouaches.
Zijn werk bestaat uit landschappen, stadsgezichten en figuren, die in zijn fantasie zijn ontstaan. Hoewel hij soms in het buitenland schilderde, vond Hoogstra zijn inspiratie voornamelijk in het Hollandse landschap en de wereld om hem heen. Jelle Hoogstra overleed in 2003.
