  • Karl Scheckscheid (born June 23, 1917 in Duisburg; † May 6, 1970 Düsseldorf) was a German painter.
  • After completing an apprenticeship as a painter and decorator, Karl Strichscheid attended the Wuppertal master school for the creative crafts, painting and colored wall design department. In 1934 he was accepted at the free art school for painting and graphics in Düsseldorf, founded by Hans Carp. Here he studied under the direction of Jo Strahn until 1939, and then continued his studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, first in the class of W. Schmurr, later with Julius Paul Junghanns, until 1945. In the post-war period he was influenced by study trips to Luxembourg, Tyrol, Italy and the USA. In 1953 he received a scholarship from the Cultural Circle of German Business in the BDI.
Karl Scheckscheid is buried in Düsseldorf's Nordfriedhof. Artistic development His artistic development after 1945 is characterized by a departure from Rhenish Impressionism. He experimented with cubism, expressionism, informal art and mixed figurative and abstract forms. It was figurative art on the verge of abstraction. Technically he mastered many methods, materials and forms of expression. With KS you can wander through the middle of the twentieth century and notice how the changing impulses and art developments of this time catalytically rubbed off on him and how he integrated the different movements in a free and open style and continued them in his own painting.
Exhibitions 1938: Christmas exhibition of Düsseldorf artists, November 27th to December 24th 1942: Winter exhibition of Düsseldorf artists 1947: Düsseldorf art exhibition, September 14th to November 30th 1949: Exhibition of the Düsseldorf artist group in 1949 in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf 1951: Large Christmas exhibition of the artists from Rhineland and Westphalia, Ehrenhof
