Kees Okx (1939-2015) is vanaf zijn 17e tot op zijn 75 jarige leeftijd bezeten geweest van tekenen, etsen en schilderen. In de loop van al die tussenliggende jaren heeft hij een eigen abstracte stijl ontwikkeld waarmee hij internationale bekendheid verwierf.
Het jaar 1969 kan worden beschouwd als een doorbraak van Kees Okx: hij exposeerde met het thema ”Het Labyrinth” achtereenvolgens in het Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam , het Stedelijk Museum in Schiedam en in de Haarlemse Vishal. In zijn ruimtelijke wereld van tekens en symbolen kwamen muziek, poezie en beweging bij elkaar. Het waren spraakmakende performances, happenings die aardig wat stof deden opwaaien.
