Biography: Maurice Goth (Szatmar, 1873 - 1944, Amsterdam) was born in Hungary. He was educated in Munich, Vienna and in Paris at the Académie Julian. He made many trips with his family. In 1914 they were on holiday on the Belgian coast when they were surprised by the outbreak of the First World War. They emigrated to the neutral Netherlands and settled in Domburg. Here Goth was included in the Zeeland circle of artists around Jan Toorop. Goth painted in a powerful impressionist style: landscapes, village and city views, portraits and still lifes. In 1929 he and his family settled permanently in Veere, although he regularly made long journeys. He received, among other things, the Hungarian Prix de Rome. Goth was a member of the artists' association "Arti et Amicitiae". He died in Amsterdam. His work is represented in the collection of the Hague Municipal Museum, Drents Museum Assen and Centraal Museum Utrecht.
