Nico Koster (Amsterdam, 1940) ging naar de grafische school in Amsterdam en begon met fotograferen tijdens zijn militaire diensttijd. In de jaren zestig trad hij in dienst bij de Telegraaf waar hij tot 1988 werkte. Koster maakte onder andere reportages over sport, society en mode.
In 1969 maakte hij samen met Henk van der Meijden een reportage over John Lennon en Yoko Ono in het Hilton Hotel te Amsterdam. Deze foto’s werden wereldberoemd. Zijn reportage over de bezetting van het Indonesisch consulaat leverde hem in 1975 de zilveren prijs van World Press Photo op. In 1983 won hij de Zilveren Camera voor een foto van de krakersrellen in de Vondelstraat. Koster ging na zijn periode bij de Telegraaf in de kunsthandel, maar bleef fotograferen. Door zijn omgang met, veelal, CoBrA kunstenaars heeft hij veel geprezen kunstenaars mogen portretteren.
