On the occasion of documenta IV in 1968, Christo and Jeanne-Claude created the then largest inflated structure ever without a skeleton in Kassel, Germany. After three failed attempts, it was built on August 3, 1968 using five cranes, two of which were 70 meters high and each weighed 200 tons. The pair of giant cranes, the tallest Europe had to offer, operated separately in northern France and in Hamburg, Germany. It took only two weeks to ensure that both cranes arrived in Kassel at the same time, to lift the inflated air parcel from the horizontal position on the ground to the vertical position.
