From August 20 to October 23, 2010, Pat Torley (1949, San Francisco, USA; California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, USA) exhibited her special paintings that she makes from pulp of paper and fibers. This duo exhibition with her husband Peter Gentenaar attracted great interest.
After Pat started her career as a designer of spatial textile objects, she became interested in the possibilities that paper pulp offers. Experiments with objects in which Pat combined textiles and pulp eventually led to an organic use of paper pulp. Pat 'builds' paintings from this by painstakingly applying layer after layer to a supporting fleece. What is special about this is that she builds the painting from front to back. Thanks to her years of experience, she can apply the different layers so thinly that a certain transparency remains.
Pat Gentenaar now works figuratively and often chooses her subjects in nature. Not surprising, because according to Pat, the essence of man lies in nature.
