Marinus Adamse (1891-1977)

Marinus Adamse (1891-1977)

The Dordrecht painter Marinus Adamse(1891-1977) started his artistic life as a worker in the glass factory of Bouvy in Dordrecht. When he turned out to have drawing talent, an allowance enabled him to study at the academy in Munich. He then spent some time in Rotterdam where he took part in the first exhibition of De Branding in 1917. In his modest, small flower still lifes and portraits, Marinus Adamse opts for simplicity and stylization instead of fierce expressionism. His work is sometimes reminiscent of Mankes's, although he uses an open, blond color scheme.
